PUALANI CASE (Kanaka Maoli) is from the Island of Hawai i (also known as the Big Island). With a degree in Hawaiian Language and Culture and a Teaching Degree in Social Studies, she has been a public school teacher as well as a Kumu Hula for more than 25 years. Pua and her ohana, or family, are active as leaders in and beyond their community, immersed in culture and tradition serving on multiple Hawaiian boards and committees. Their energies are currently focused on the sacred mountain Mauna Kea (Mauna a Wakea) as part of the Mauna Kea Hui and the Mauna Kea Ohana. They have formed Idle No More Hawai i, Warriors Rising to connect to others around the world who are working to address the issues and challenges facing the sacred places and sacred ways of all people. DAPHIE POOYAK (Nakota and Cree) from Sweetgrass First Nation, Saskatchewan Canada, has dedicated her life to understanding, learning and sharing natural law. She has worked with children for many years, correctional institutes, and alcohol and drug abuse centers as a traditional teacher and a cultural adviser.
