CARLA RAE MARSHALL (Cheyenne River Lakota) has provided independent creative and media services to various non-profit organizations including South Dakota Coalition Ending Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence (www.sdcedsv.org). She currently works through SDCEDVSV bringing awareness and prevention of Sex Trafficking in Indian Country of South Dakota. BRENDA HILL (Siksika) is the Native Co-Director for the South Dakota Coalition Ending Domestic and Sexual Violence (SDCEDSV). Her main responsibilities are providing material development for public education, training, consultation and technical assistance to member programs with an emphasis on Native programs. Previously she was the Education Coordinator for Sacred Circle, National Resource Center to End Violence Against Native Women for over 11 years. In that position, Brenda developed culturally-based educational materials and provided training, technical assistance, and consultation to tribal nations through out the United States. She has been actively involved in the SD Coalition since 1989, including 2 years as Coordinator in the days before VAWA. She is a founding mother & former Director of the Women's Circle Shelter Program on the Lake Traverse Reservation. Prior to Women's Circle, she was a member of the SissetonWahpeton Community College faculty where she developed and taught courses for a chemical dependency degree program. Brenda earned a B.A. from New York University and an M.A. from the University of South Dakota, but attributes her expertise in the area of advocacy to the many grassroots women who have honored her with their stories and trust in her as an advocate, her personal experience as a woman who was in relationships with men who chose to be violent aka survivor, and her involvement with the Coalition. Brenda is grandma to ten beautiful grandchildren and great-grandma to identical twin girls.
